Who am I?
My name is Davey, and I enjoy building kick ass websites.
I could go on and tell you about my accomplishments and how well I might have done in school, but I don’t remember naming this the Resume page. No; you clicked on the about page, and that’s what you’re going to get (but I’ll still put in a resume for anyone to look over).
I built my first website in the sixth grade, using a Yahoo! service called Geocities. I no longer have a copy of the site and the service has since expired, but I do know that it was absolutely hideous. We’re talking navigation pushed over to one side of the screen with tiled anime character pictures for the background. Bad, bad, bad.
But it was a useful exercise. I had never had more fun on a school assignment, and was pretty much stricken from that point forward. Fast forward a year or two and I’m heading my own internet forum for video games. Granted, I ran it into the ground because I treated the members who signed up like ants under a magnifying glass, but hey, I was like thirteen years old.
After my forum went under, I realized I could learn to build a site, instead of relying off of templates. This was completely new to me. I had never given thought to how a site was made, I had merely dragged and dropped and clicked a few “color change” buttons and that was just dandy for me, so this was strange territory.
And so I tinkered and I toyed with examples and templates on the web, seeing how one thing affected everything else. I applied my fresh knowledge of C++ into teaching myself a basic understanding of PHP, and before I knew it I had my first website designed.
But in the interests of being fair and balanced, you should also know that I have difficulty telling even small lies, I don’t believe in censoring myself, and I have an addiction to the treadmill.
What is Cheatlancer?
I had no idea that so many people would ask this until I started passing around business cards and showing people what I was working on.
The answer is a very long and uninteresting story involving Banjo-Kazooie, Pokemon, and my tendency to cheat against my opponents in video games.
All you really need to know is that it’s my identity on the internet and it’s who I present myself as. Cheatlancer is Davey and Davey is Cheatlancer. Hell, even most of my friends know me as Cheat, rather than my actual name.
